MyGlam is now ipsy!

Hello lovies!

So as you know, I am a huge fan of the MyGlam beauty subscription service that was started by fellow YouTuber, Michelle Phan. So when I woke up today to check my email I saw some big news...

MyGlam has changed to ipsy.com. The glam bags stay the same, so no worries with the current subscription holders. However, there are some massive changes to the website and company structure!

I'll admit, I am afraid of change... however, I was able to peruse the website for a while today and I think it's great! I was a little taken aback by the name change, but after finding out the meaning behind it, I can dig it. :)

From the ispy/MyGlam Facebook page:

Why ipsy…beauty by you? When our founder Michelle Phan started myglam last year, she envisioned a vibrant community where women would be inspired to express their unique beauty. myglam was a great starting point, but as we launched a home f
or our community, we wanted a name that had a deeper meaning. ipsy comes from the latin word ipse, which means “sense of self”.

At ipsy, we believe the following:
1. Beauty is personal. There is no prescribed view of what is beautiful.
2. Beauty is a way for women to express their creativity and to connect with like-minded women.
3. Forging connections makes women feel more confident, valued and inspired.

The name ipsy is perfectly suited to reflect these core beliefs. And, the first thing you do when you join ipsy is customize your own logo and make your mark on the community.

What do you believe about beauty and what do you think of ipsy?
So, change is good! AND they have open subscriptions, so I definitely suggest heading over and taking their style quiz. The same as before... they have glam bags every month for $10.00.

4th of July Looks

Hey ya'll!! Here is the look I did for the 4th of July! I figure this look would be great throughout the summer because of the light eye shadow. I'd probably tone down the lip for a picnic and perhaps pick a pretty peach or baby pink. :) But the red is sexy! Subscribe if you're new!!! xoxo

Julep Maven Box - June 2012

Hello lovelies!

It's that time again! All my beauty subscriptions are coming in the mail which is seriously like Christmas every month. Someone asked me what I am subscribed to so here is the list: Julep Nails, Birchbox, MyGlam and now Influenster (which is made for reviewers).

So for the month of June I was in LOVE with the Julep colors for my "style," American Beauty. Below are photos of the box as well as the nail colors.

 Courtney
 Lily
 Rose

I also was able to purchase an "add on" for $4.95 (sorry I kept saying $4 in the video). So I picked up Rose, which is this super sweet watermelon pinkish red. :)

The box this month also came with chapstick (God bless Julep) and sunscreen SPF 30 for hands and face. Just in time for summer! And did I mention Pixi Stix!? :)

If you'd like to join Julep, you can get your first month for ONE PENNY! Just click on the link below and after you take the style quiz use discount code PENNY at checkout. You can always skip next month if you're low on funds! Plus if you refer 2 friends you get a free month!

DIY "Z-Palette" for Eyeshadows

Do-It-Yourself: Making an Eyeshadow "Z-Palette" out of a gift card holder

What a fun project this was! Kristen and I decided a while back that 1. We have too many eye shadows, 2. They take up a ton of space, and 3. We could make our own Z-Palettes for much cheaper!

So here is a DIY project you can try out for any eyeshadows. For me, I depotted and made my Urban Decay Book of Shadows Palette for this project.

I am calling this a "homemade Z-Palette" because it works the same way. However, a large Z-Palette is $20.00 on Amazon, and the small Z-Palette (around the same size as this holder) is $15.00. I spent around $6.00 for the materials I used here. :)

What you will need:
- Scissors
- Magnetic strips or dots (I got my dots from a craft store)
- A metal gift card holder
- Tweezers or something flat and sharp like a metal nail file
- Time and patience.

I'll say this... deconstructing the BoS Palette was a chore. It took a very long time due to the thick cardboard that is used on the box. However, when I got it down to the thin top layer of cardboard, I was able to pry most of the shadows off with a nail file. The remaining ones, I cut around the cardboard (it doesn't matter if there are pieces left on the back, they're getting a magnet anyway!).

Affix the magnets to the back of each shadow and carefully place in the tin.

This is such an easy project, but it does take time and patience. If you rush to get the shadows out, you may crack or break them! So be careful and give your hands a rest when you need it. :)

The final project should look like this...

Expenses:

CVS Gift Card Tin - $2.99
Magnetic Dots - $3.00
Book of Shadows - $35.00 (from HauteLook)

 Good luck and have fun!

Maybelline XXL Pro Extension Mascara How-To

So after much hemming and hauling, I decided to try out the Maybelline XXL Pro Extensions Mascara that I have heard so much about! A YouTube guru I love, Sam Schuerman, has talked about these for months and her lashes always look fantastic! So on a random trip out to Ulta, I picked up the Extensions Waterproof in the color Very Black. So far I love them! Watch the video for the how-to and I'll write more instructions below...
1. Curl your lashes. I have a cheap LaCrosse curler I used in the video, but I prefer my Elf eyelash curler my sis got me a while back. :)

2. Apply the white treatment gel labeled Step 1 on the tube. I put on two coats.

3. Chill a sec. Let them dry!

 4. Then I applied two coats of the black mascara (Step 2 on the tube).
I didn't notice much clumping overall, but if any lashes stuck together then I just used my finger to wiggle them apart.

5. Look awesome.

You can pick up this mascara at any drugstore. I've seen it at Walmart, Target, CVS, Walgreens, Ulta, Bed Bath and Beyond and Rite Aid.

It retails for around $6.00 depending on where you get it.

Cheers,
Meg
